H.I.A. FAMILY TREE
Choi Yong-Sool was the founder of Hapkido as we know it today. That is not to say that he invented the thousands of techniques of Hapkido as this would be impossible for one person. Instead he learned techniques from the different native Korean martial arts and combined them into one. Parts of his study were also influenced to an unknown degree by the Japanese arts as he spent time in Japan. Choi Yong-Sool named his art Hapkido in 1958.
Our Association is proud to have direct links with the founder of Hapkido himself. Despite incorrect information contained on other web sites, this is the true Hapkido lineage of our Association.
